Hinesville – Walterine Rivers Conyers was born October 23, 1932 in Walterboro, SC to the late Bennie Rivers and Queen Ester George Rivers.  Upon the death of Queen Ester George, Bennie Rivers, married Alvina Jenkins whom Walterine affectionately called "Mama."

Walterine attended Beaufort County School System. Upon graduating she relocated to Brooklyn, NY. After working several odd jobs, she became employed at Kings County Hospital as a rehab technician, where she remained for 33 years.  She was respectfully called "Big Mama" by her patients.

Walterine was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church under the leadership of J.B. Cross in Brooklyn, NY.  She retired and resided in Savannah, GA with her long time and loving husband, Willie Conyers and son Willie Conyers, Jr.  She was a longtime member of White Oak Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jordan Richardson in Savannah, GA.  Walterine took flight to be home with the Lord on May 24, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Conyers and son Willie Conyers, Jr., 6 brothers, Bennie, Jr., Harvey, Harry, Eugene, Marvin, and Sammie; and 5 sisters, Inez, Mary, Irene, Julie, and Sollenne.

Walterine leaves to cherish her memories, sisters, Etha Nell Harston from Chicago, "Jacob" and Cynthia Parker from North Carolina, "Ronnie"; sister-in-law Emma Rivers, brother-in-law Freddie McKie, Prisilla and Johnny Harden lovingly and  respectfully known as brother and sister; Michelle and Jason Brunson, Jr. her loving niece and nephew, whom she called her children.  Also left to cherish her memories is her wonderful friend Marion and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
