Walton E. "Dick" Helmey
Guyton – Walton E. "Dick" Helmey, 85, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Effingham Extended Care.
Mr. Helmey was born December 28, 1924 to the late Ward and Emma Helmey. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a retired farmer. He was a Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater where he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a father figure for his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include one special nephew, Weldon Helmey; one brother, Jack Helmey; four sisters, Clifford Jackson, Minnie Lee Zipperer, Ellen Danker, and Bessie Studier all of Guyton; one sister-in-law, Wilma Helmey.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Barbara Koch officiating.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
