Rincon – Wayne Hoover Ambrose, 70, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2024.
Wayne was born to Herbert and Joan Ambrose on January 30, 1953 in Savannah, GA.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Terry Ambrose of 52 years. He proclaimed in second grade that he would marry her one day, and being a man of his word, Wayne and Terry were married on August 20, 1971.
Together they built a family, daughter, Shelly Griffin (William) and son, Justin Ambrose (Kristen). Their grandchildren, Lauren Cook (Chris), Mark Turner (Madison), Emma, Jackson, and Jacob Ambrose. Their great-grandchildren, Ryan and Blake Turner, and Tripp Cook. His two brothers, David Ambrose (Harriett) and Barry Ambrose (Amanda); and a number of nieces and nephews.
Wayne was a colorful and comical man who was passionate about his family and a loyal friend to many. Wayne loved building race cars and using Richland Avenue as his drag strip.
He loved hanging out in his shop, turning wrenches and revving race car engines with his friends.
He was a master of telling embellished stories from his days of trucking and gave grand family speeches during the holidays. Family gatherings grew large because Wayne loved friends like family and enjoyed being surrounded by those he loved, and most of all he loved, Terry, his second grade sweetheart.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the funeral home.
Family is requesting no flowers however remembrances can be given to Effingham County Animal Shelter. He adopted many animals over the years and this honor's his best friend, Maggie.
