Obituary

Pooler – Donald Wayne Seay, 81, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2021 at his home.

Born in Winter Garden, Florida to James Pearson and Laliae Roberts Seay, December 17, 1939.  He moved to Pooler as a young child and became a life long resident.  He attended Pooler School, Chatham Jr. High and graduated from Savannah High School and Georgia Southern College.  He was then drafted into the US Army where he proudly served in the 1 st Infantry Division ("The Big Red One.").  After completing his military service, he joined the faculty of Robert W. Groves High School where he taught History and Social Studies for 28 years.

Wayne was a devoted Pooler resident and was elected to the City Council where he served for a time as Mayor Pro-Tem.  Knowing Pooler's history, he was particularly interested in maintaining Pooler's "home town atmosphere" even in the midst of great growth and change.  A lifelong member of Trinity Methodist Church/Pooler, he served as Sunday School teacher, choir member (60 years), song leader and Church Historian.

Not only as a teacher, but also as a student, himself, Wayne was always researching, learning and expanding his knowledge of his favorite subjects, especially the American South and his Low Country heritage.  He was more than happy to share his knowledge and did so orally and by writings.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Betty Rich Seay; his son, Daniel Seay; granddaughter, Victoria Seay, and her children, Noah and Della; step-daughters, Debra Beatty, Stephanie Beatty (Chuck), Terri Hodgson; and their children, Libby Waller, Jared Waller (Anna), Jordy Davison (Mindy), Kyle Davison, Avery Simmons (Dorothy), Melissa Lowe (Zach), Dustin Dorsey, and Nick Dorsey; sister, Marsha Seay McKendree (Larry); a special cousin, Carey Roberts, and numerous other relatives.

The family would like to thank all of those dedicated caregivers and neighbors who so faithfully helped and supported Wayne and us.  Also, a special thanks to Lisa/Cuts & Curls and Amedisys Hospice for their kindness and professional services.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Trinity United Methodist Church-Pooler, followed by the funeral service at 12 Noon.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of Flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 320 Benton Drive, Pooler, GA  31322 or Amedisys Hospice at 138 Canal Street, Suite 304, Pooler, GA  31322.
