Obituary

Mr. William Avila, 92, of Pooler, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Mr. Avila was born in Rhode Island and had lived in Pooler for the past 67 years. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, having served in the Normandy Invasion during World War II, as well as the European Theatre. He was a Baptist and retired from Dozier Crane.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Irene Tyner Avila; daughter and son-in-law, Toni & Dozier Cook; son and daughter-in-law, William John & Jan Avila; grandchildren, Christopher Cook, Anthony & Alissa Cook, Carla & Brian Dooley, Katy & Alex McDaniel, and Jonathan Avila; great-grandchildren, John Kyle Varnedoe, Jaden Cook, Isobel Zeigler, Addeline Dooley, Davis Dooley, and Emil Cook.
The visitation will be on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral will be on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Newton Cemetery with military honors. The pallbearers will be Wesley Sitton, Scotty Sitton, Jay Chumley, Bill O'Leary, Larry Knight, Mike Tabakian. The honorary pallbearers will be William Hamm and Roy Seinfield.
