William Francis Bailey, Sr.
Guyton – William Francis Bailey, Sr., 86, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011 at his residence.
The Chatham County native served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 34th Infantry, Red Bull Division. His unit was the most decorated unit in WWII having 5 Battle Ribbons and in combat more than any other. He retired from Boilermaker's Local #26, was a commercial fisherman, boat builder, and farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, William McPhail Bailey and Anna DuBois Hodge Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Neidlinger Bailey of Guyton; children, William Francis Bailey, Jr. (Kathy) of Guyton, David Bradley Bailey, Sr. (Cindy) of Guyton, Michael McPhail Bailey (Suzanne) of Brooklet; 5 granchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Stockbridge of Savannah.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Springfield. Boilermaker's Local #26 will be honorary pallbearers.
Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery Annex.
