William Steven "Bill" Burns passed away on December 24, 2017.
Born in Minnesota, Bill grew up in Nashville, TN. He spent the past 28 years as a resident of Guyton, GA. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the Navy. He was a retired police officer, his dream job, for the Savannah Police Department. He worked as a patrol officer, mounted patrol, and detective over the course of his 30 years with SPD. He spent the past several years as a deputy sheriff/blue coat for the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.
He loved baseball, specifically the St. Louis Cardinals, and any team his son played on. He also loved Karate, having earned his black belt several years ago. He had a very love/hate relationship with his old Victorian house refusing to be defeated by the many things that always went wrong.
He was a knife-throwing mountain man who will forever be loved and missed by his wife, Linda, his daughters Elizabeth, Victoria, Morgan, and Ashley, his sons, William, Walter, and Dustin, his mother, Era, his brothers Robert "Bobby" and Lon "Buddy", eight grandchildren, five nieces and nephews, and other family members. He is also survived by his fur-babies Shep, Peggy, Shorty, and Whiskey as well as his grand-doggers Beans and Bella.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at New Providence Baptist Church, 106 Church Street, in Guyton.
