March 5, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mr. William F. Mattox Sr. (Billy), 89, of Eden, Georgia, who peacefully departed this life on March 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Billy, affectionately known as Wild Bill, was born in Savannah, Georgia, and embraced Eden as his home for over 60 years. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family above all else. Billy's legacy is also one of hard work and dedication, having served as a millwright at Union Camp for 46 years. He was a man of many passions, finding joy in pursuits such as golf, fishing, CB radio club, and hunting. Billy's skilled hands found solace in his workshop, where he could tackle any project with expertise.
Preceding Billy in death are his parents, Dexter and Catherine Mattox, along with six sisters and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Betty Mattox; children, Linda Smith (Solomon) of Eden, William Mattox Jr. (Lynn) of Eden, and Bobby Mattox (Paige) of Pooler, along with five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Billy's remarkable life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Bloomingdale Alliance Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. In honor of Billy's compassionate spirit, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice of Savannah in lieu of flowers.
Billy's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
