Obituary

WILLIAM C. (BILLY) STROZIER, FORMER MAYOR OF BLOOMINGDALE, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 three days shy of his 82 nd birthday.

Billy was born August 29, 1940 in the old Telfair Hospital in downtown Savannah to the late William Carter Strozier, Sr. and Louise Maddox Strozier.  With the exception of four years in Augusta, GA and a tour in the Vietnam War, he resided in Bloomingdale for the remainder of his life.  In 1976 he was elected to the Bloomingdale City Council and served 14 years until elected mayor.  He served in that capacity for 16 years.  As of this date, he was the longest serving mayor for the city he loved.

He was a 1958 graduate of Benedictine Military School, a member of the "BC Survivors Club" and attended Armstrong Junior College.  Upon his return from Vietnam, he began his career with Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring in 2002 as an engineer.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Kathy (Kitty) Strozier and wife, Linda Daniels Strozier.

He is survived by step-daughters, Janine Hernandez (Ed) of Smithfield, VA and Kim Neal (Reginald) of Honolulu, HI; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Jimmi Taylor (Billy) of Bloomingdale, GA; several cousins and former wife, Joan A. Strozier.

We would like to thank the many people that have reached out to our family during this period of time.  Billy loved the city and the residents of Bloomingdale.  He never failed to help those in need and did not expect anything in return.  It was his honor to serve, and to give back, to the people of his beloved Bloomingdale.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be given to Alpha United Methodist Church, 5 Hwy 80 E, Bloomingdale, GA  31302, or a charity of your choice.

The visitation will be on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the funeral home.  The funeral will follow at 12 noon in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
