Mr. William L. "Billy" Wallace
Pooler-Mr. William L. "Billy" Wallace, 86, died on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at
Hospice Savannah with his family at his side.
Mr. Wallace was born in Daisy, GA on January 6, 1921 and had lived in Pooler for many
years. He graduated from Claxton High School in 1939. He had been an active member
of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1948 where he was a member of the Henry A.
Harden Sunday School Class. He had served as president of the United Methodist Men
and had served on the building committee for the new Church that was built in 1974. He
retired from Union Camp as the supervisor of the mill machine shop in 1983 after 42
years of service and was a member of the International Association of Machinists Local
#23 where he had previously served as recording secretary and president. He was a
member of the Hamilton Ridge Hunting Club in Garnett, SC and served his country in the
U.S. Navy during World War II and the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an
alderman for the Town of Pooler serving under Mayor Tom Gleason in the late 1940's
then served as the town recorder while Mayor Virgil Beatty was in office in the 1950's
and 1960's. He was a member of the Landrum Masonic Lodge in Savannah since 1943.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers. He enjoyed
outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with his wife,
children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed but will live in our hearts forever.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doris Heidt Wallace of Pooler; daughter and
son-in-law, Jackie & Jake Mullins of Richmond Hill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr.
Gene & Donna Wallace of Richmond Hill and Dr. Richard & Dr. Andrea Wallace of
Richmond Hill; grandchildren, Robin Boyd, Wesley Mullins, WO2 Michael Kicklighter,
Ashley Kicklighter, Elizabeth Wallace and Will Wallace; great-grandchildren, Tony
Sapp, Jennifer Sapp and John Michael "Little Jake" Mullins; great-great-grandson,
Boston Roscinski; sister, Mozelle Golentz of Ocala, FL and a number of nieces and
nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Wallace will
lie in state from 10-11 a.m. at the Church. The burial will follow at Zion Lutheran
Church Cemetery at the corner of Hwy 17 and Hwy 30 in Effingham County.
