IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William A.
Davis, Jr. (Billy)
January 1, 2024
William A. Davis Jr. (Billy) 73, passed into eternal rest on Monday, January 1, 2024, after losing a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Savannah to the late Fannie Mae Edenfield Davis and William A. Davis, Sr. and grew up in the Woodlawn Section of Garden City. He graduated from Groves High School in 1968. Back in the day, Billy proudly drove around in his green 340 Plymouth Duster with a black spoiler. He attended Armstrong State College and South Georgia State College in Douglass, Georgia and served in the Air National Guards. He retired from Wayerhauser (formerly Stone Container), where he was on both the softball and bowling teams and worked a brief time for Cameron Ashley Building Products. He also enjoyed playing pool and participated in local tournaments for a brief time. Never at a loss for words, Billy never met a stranger…he was that tall, lanky guy with the deep baritone voice and outgoing and witty personality. He was an avid metal detectorist, which combined his love of history and nature. He had a deep interest and intense knowledge of Georgia history and the Civil War.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Bridgette Speegle (Eric); grandson, Wills Speegle (Caroline); brother, Anthony Davis (Carolyn); nephews Patrick Gilmore and Shane Gilmore, and several cousins.
The visitation will be on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
