Bloomingdale - Mr. William Herbert Rushing, 79, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Bryan County Rehabilitation Nursing Home.
He was born on April 30, 1929 in Candler County to Mary Louvenia Miles and James Claude Rushing. Mr. Rushing retired as a purchasing agent for the Georgia Ports Authority. He was a U.S. Army veteran, member of the Richard T. Turner #116 F&M lodge, Co-Founder of the "Hillbilly Unit"of the Alee Shrine, member of the West Chatham Shrine Club and the Effingham County Shrine Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lucille Bland, Dorothy Hagan, Loree Dominy, Mildred Stubbs, Inez Mitchell, and Sue Nell Cobb Hollingsworth and brother J.C. Rushing.

Survivors include his wife, Alpharine B. Rushing of Faulkville; two daughters, Beverly Hodges of Faulkville and Cheryl (Jeff) Knight of Guyton; son, William Kenneth (Angela) Rushing of Faulkville; four grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.

Funeral: 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Graveside at Hillcrest Abbey West.
