Mr. William E. "Gene" Oglesby, Sr.
Garden City-Mr. William E. "Gene" Oglesby, Sr., 71, died on Saturday, August 11, 2007
at his home surrounded by his family.
The lifelong Chatham County resident was a member of the Garden City United
Methodist Church. He was a self-employed carpenter before going to work for R.B.
Baker Construction Company in 1996. He served his country in the Georgia National
Guard, the U.S. Navy for four years as well as the Naval Reserves. He was a former
member of the Garden City Lions Club serving in every position from Tail Twister to
President, he formerly served on the Garden City Recreation Department, the Garden City
Planning Board and coached girls softball and mini-peewee football. He was preceded in
death by his father, Warren F. Oglesby, Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jane Hall Oglesby of Garden City; children and
their spouses, William E. "Billy" Oglesby, Jr. & Tasia of Garden City and Kimberly O.
Kersey & Billy of Garden City; grandsons, Brent Kersey, Lane Oglesby, Lee Oglesby and
granddaughter, Kaylan Kersey; step-grandson and his wife, Kevin Kersey & Michele of
Savannah; step-great-grandson, Chase Kersey; mother, Cynthia Oglesby of Garden City;
three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert H. Oglesby & Eunice of Savannah, Warren F.
Oglesby, Jr. & Ann of Garden City and Joe B. Oglesby & Kum Su of Alamagorda, New
Mexico and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at
Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery on Dean Forest Road. Rev. Dan Pegram will officiate,
pallbearers will be Jay Farrell, Johnny Johnson, Bobby Murray, Brant Rushing, Tommy
Niver & Dennis Temples.
