Mr. William Jerry Hillis, Sr., 78, of Guyton, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018 at his home.
He was born in Sardis to the late Henry & Vivian Hillis. He had lived in Pooler for over 40 years before moving to Guyton in 2009. He was a shared member of the Pooler First Baptist Church where he was also a Deacon, Elam-Egypt Baptist Church and Bellmont Baptist Church in Clyde, NC. He was a Mason with the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge # 116 F&AM. He retired as Chief of Training from the Savannah Fire Department after over 31 years of service. He was a former Fire Chief of the Pooler Volunteer Fire Department, EMT, and also was a clown during training techniques with the fire department. He enjoyed fishing and carving, but most of all, being a Daddy, Pe Pa and Sugg to his family that he loved so much!
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sandra Buckley Hillis; his children and their spouses, Lynn Hillis Miller (Tim) and William "Jay" Hillis, Jr.(Tonya); grandchildren, Megan Fowler (Justin), Morgan Roy (Billy), Jordan Hillis (Bailey), Drew Hillis and Chase Hillis (Becca); great-grandchildren, Joel Hillis, Vivilyn Fowler and Cameron Roy; special aunt, Victoria Hudson (Aunt Vic).
The visitation will be on Tuesday, August 14 th from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The celebration of life service will be on Wednesday, August 15
th
at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
