Obituary

Garden City-Mr. William Perry "Pat" Shuman, 92, passed away Thursday at Spanish Oaks Retreat in Savannah.
Mr. Shuman was born in Statesboro and had lived in Garden City for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry & Lula Beatrice Morris Shuman, and his wife, Dorothy DeLoach Shuman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City and retired from the U.S. Post Office where he carried mail for many years in Port Wentworth. Pat also served the Port Wentworth community for 40 years working at Wentworth Sales Hardware Store. He served his country in both the U.S. Army where he was a Master Sergeant and the U.S. Air Force where he was a First Sergeant. He was a member of the Anti-Aircraft (Battery C) from Statesboro. He served in battles and campaigns at the Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons, Bismarch Archipelago and Southern Philippines. He was the receipient of the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the American Defense Service Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member and Past Master of the Frank F. Baker Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Judy S. & Leigh "Bucky" Adkins of Garden City; son and daughter-in-law, Tim & Jean L. Shuman of Clyo; grandchildren, Jason Adkins, Brian Adkins, Lindsey Zittrouer and Lauren Shuman; great-grandchildren, Lewis Adkins, Mica Adkins, Elliot Adkins, Natalie Adkins and Harrison Zittrouer; brother, John O. Shuman of Pooler and several nephews.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 11 a.m. on Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Old Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Bulloch County with military honors.
