Obituary

Rincon – William D. Shaw, 80, died May 6, 2023 at his residence.

Born in St. Louis, MO on September 22, 1942 to Llewellyn and Alpha (Cureton), Bill was an army brat that grew up all over the world and never met a stranger. Preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Survived by his beloved second wife of three years, Jean McCann; a brother, Jack and wife D.J. of Newnan, GA; four children: daughter, Kimberly Morgan of Rincon, GA, and sons, Edward and wife Heather; Jeffrey and wife Brandi of Waleska, GA, and Richard and wife Jeannine of Centerville, VA; step-son, Roger and wife Robin Lauer of Downingtown, PA; and eight grandchildren.

Bill was a Pooler resident for more than 40 years. His outside-the-box thinking served him well not only in his work as an aircraft engineer but also in his hobby of model trains. Consumed by his love of model trains, he traveled the eastern U.S. from Novi, MI to Miami, FL with his 60 x 14 foot fully detailed HO scale model train layout under the moniker Have Trains Will Travel. Some of his favorite scenes on the layout include crashed airplanes; the Addams family at their Summer Castle; a container crane yard; a nuclear power station (including little green men!); and a 911 crime scene with fire, EMS and police apprehending criminals. Two of the ideas he was most proud of include using a building that was badly damaged by putting a bulldozer in it and called it Urban Renewal. And what do you do with a bag of 50 assorted police figures? You populate a Krispy Kreme store with them, of course! The quirkier the idea, the more he loved it.
