Obituary

Okatie, South Carolina – WOODROW WILSON PALMER, "WOODY", age 79, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, following a long illness.

Mr. Palmer was born in Murphy, North Carolina, on July 4, 1946, the son of Mildred Britt Palmer and Woodrow Wilson Palmer, Sr.    He lived in Murphy, North Carolina, with his family until the family moved to Savannah, Georgia, during Mr. Palmer's 10th grade year at Groves High School in Savannah.  While at Groves High School he met his future wife Margaret Boykin Palmer.

Mr. Palmer attended Georgia Southern College and thereafter served honorably in the U. S. Army reserves.

Mr. Palmer was a business owner for many years in Savannah and in Forest Park, Georgia, retiring in 2001.

In retirement, Mr. Palmer and his wife Margaret built a home on the coast in 2004 in Okatie, SC, and in the mountains of Murphy, NC, in 2014, while also maintaining their home on their farm in Williamson, Georgia, near Atlanta.

Mr. Palmer was a member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Ebenezer, Effingham County, Georgia.  Mr. Palmer was a proud follower of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and one of his last statements was "I believe in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and I'm trusting Him to save my soul."

Woody loved people, especially his numerous nieces and nephews.  He was always quick to tell a funny story and invariably saw the humor in most situations.  He was also a very honest and generous person not only to his family but also to those who knew him.

Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Boykin Palmer; his sister, Pat Cannady; and brother, Tommy Palmer of Savannah, Georgia.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 12:00 – 1 p.m.at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 2966 Ebenezer Road, Rincon, Georgia, 31326. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. at the church, with interment following at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
