Obituary

After Glenne and Joe Butler moved their five children from Savannah to Guyton in the mid1940s, Yvonne and her older sister, Mary Olive (Ratchford), could not wait to move back to the city. Then she met Ludean Falagan, and her life path - as well as Mary Olive's - remained in Effingham. Meanwhile, her younger brothers and sister (Lee, Terrell, and Emmagene Buttimer) settled in larger cities. On Monday, October 20, 2025, she passed from her Marlow home that is adorned with live oaks to meet her beloved Ludean and these family members in Heaven.

Ludean and Yvonne were dedicated members of Pine Street Baptist Church in Guyton. She devoted 50 years of her life to teaching Sunday School, including "The Ladies'' Sunday School Class. Her relationship and daily walk with Jesus was an inspiration to many. She believed in the power of daily prayer and scripture reading. Even through cancer treatments and the isolation of Covid, she kept an inner peace and always believed in the best outcome by the will of God.

For decades, many church dinners were graced with her layered cakes. Citrus lovers were particularly fond of the lemon cheese (really curd) cake.

Her baking skills were appreciated by immediate and extended family, too. Preparing food was her love language, and that love was tasted in every bite. Her children celebrated holiday meals with her specialty dishes like Easter basket and cut glass cakes. Many loved ones in the area were recipients of delightful birthday cakes with intricate icing flowers she created.

Caring for Ludean's tastes was her delight. Before he would answer a call for the railroad at 4 a.m., she would make him a full breakfast and send a homemade lunch. After his heart attack, fried shrimp and ham would still be offered but with healthier options as well.

She loved yard work but not flowers and light gardening. She much preferred a lawn mower and burn pile, dressed in heels, hose, and a dress.

Her surviving family members include daughter Marcia Lamacks and son Louis (Shannon). Her granddaughter Holly has two children, Austin and Ava.

The family would like to extend great appreciation to Hospice SunCare for their dedication in making Yvonne comfortable in her final days.
